D&D Coverage Alert #2

When a Kid (aka: Employee) gets there hand caught in the cookie jar by their Parents (aka: Employer) this is defined as “Employee Theft”.  So if your employer has cash $$$ on hand or Business Property (i.e. Chocolate Chip Cookies) than make sure your Business Owners Policy or Commercial Policy has Employee Theft (aka: Crime Coverage). Employees taking cash or business personal property are typically excluded, even under broadening endorsements.

When the Kids friend (aka: non-employee) steals cash from the employers Piggy Bank, This coverage is called “Money & Securities”. The piggy bank dollar $$$ amount limits can be set differently for both on or off premises. So depending on how much money is in the mud pen or how much money the piggy flies off site with, will determine the limit values. The same coverage principles can apply. Might be excluded, even under broadening endorsements.

D&D Coverage Alert #1

Like back in 1949 during the California Gold Rush, we are now seeing a 21st Century boom in the new residential building industry. So the Insurance companies are tightening the reins on the mules.

Please double check and review the definition of “Project” for your sub-contractor or general contractor liability policies. When it comes to residential construction defect claims, we are seeing policy language, including “Project” endorsements that limit or exclude coverage. We are finding a limit on the number of Homes within the overall housing development.  Not to be confused with the total homes worked on by the Insured.

The “Project” is the TOTAL number of homes within the development. This includes ALL Phases, present and future. So if the insured is only contracted to work on 50 homes, but the Project has a total development of 100 homes, this endorsement could exclude coverage.

The intent of the endorsement is to limit the construction defect exposure. The higher the number of homes within the Project will increase the potential for construction defect lawsuits. That is why they limit the number of homes on the endorsement.

So please remember to double check the insurance application questions, policy language and recognize any “Project” endorsements.

FDSA Monthly Bar-B-Que

With a message from Katherine Sierze

Good morning, all!

With May 15th having been Peace Officers Memorial Day, I thought I would share where the proceeds from the FDSA BBQ lunches go!

100% of the proceeds go to the FDSA’s Peace Officer Memorial Fund. This fund is used to send a $1,000 check to help with funeral costs of any officer who dies in the line of duty anywhere in California. Additionally, if they lose one of their own, they use that money to help the surviving family members in any way possible. This may include funeral costs, college tuitions, and more.

Thank you for your continued support!

Password Policy

A note from Jon McNally

This is a reminder that with the employee handbook is a password policy that states that you are not to share your password with anyone.

Not your team members or your manager, no one.

The IT Department can give access to e-mail and Epic activities for another employee at any time if a manager approves it, which means there is absolutely no reason to ever know someone else’s password.

Please remember this and remember that everything is tied to your computer login.

If your computer login password changes, your e-mail password changes to this new password.

You will have to enter it again in Outlook with the new password to your computer.

This will happen every 90 days.

Any questions, please feel free to contact myself or any member of the IT Department (Reece Goble and Christopher Lawley).

Thank you,

Jon McNally

Bakersfield Office: P & C Claims Department Meeting

A note from John Manning.

Hello Bakersfield Office,

Thanks for the spending time with Stacey & I regarding the new and exciting times in D & D Claims Services for our Clients.

The Insurance World is ever changing especially in customer service for policy holders when it comes to claims. The Insurance Companies are competing for the market share by offering seamless claims service when insured’s contact the carrier directly. As we discussed, there are several advantages for “offering” the Claims 800 # on certain claims. In addition, D & D has closely monitored these services based upon our internal claims. “The Wait is Over”.

So to re-cap here are some of “options” to consider when the client has a low severity claim.

  • Auto Windshield & Tow. Provide Client with the Insurance Co. 800 #. Immediate claims schedule and service.
  • Personal or Commercial Lines Low Severity Property Claims. Provide Client with the Insurance Co. 800 #. Immediate Mitigation Vendor Service.
  • Pocket Storms – Influx in claims. Provide Client with the Insurance Co. 800 #. Immediate Mitigation Vendor Service.
  • Late Afternoon, after hours or weekend claims. Provide Client with the Insurance Co. 800 #.

Our Agency is growing and were looking for better customer service options. Our D & D Claims Department is focusing on mid to high severity claims to utilize more of our extensive expertise. Remember, our Agency will get the Insurance Co. notification if the Client chooses this option to call the carrier directly and/or email us a Claim Form afterwards. We will monitor/advocate as usual.

We are always here regardless of the circumstance. It’s what best fits our Client.
